Gemini Simplified Interface (G.SI) for Inventory LPN
The Gemini Simplified Interface (G.SI) for Inventory LPN module extends the functionality of Oracle by providing the ability to transact on an LPN (License Plate Number) in a variety of receiving, inventory and manufacturing transactions.
LPNs in Standard Oracle
License Plate Number (LPN) is a tag for a group of items within the supply chain. It can be used as a tag for a group of items on a pallet, tote or any container. The use of LPNs can reduce errors and greatly increase throughput by eliminating the need to transact each individual item.
ClearOrbit's Gemini Simplified Interface Suite (G.SI) currently provide support for license plate numbers in the Standard Shipping and Advanced Shipping modules. This is done using the shipping LPN functionality available in the Oracle E-Business Suite.
However, as in Standard Oracle Applications, the use of license plate numbers is limited to Oracle Shipping Execution module. Items packed into LPNs should always be connected to a sales order. Inventory transactions cannot be done using LPNs.
Expanded LPN Transaction Set
ClearOrbit's G.SI for Inventory LPN removes this limitation by allowing license plate numbers (LPNs) for receiving, manufacturing and inventory transactions. The following are some of the transactions where the users can now conduct transactions using LPNs (instead of individual items):
- PO Receiving
- Inter-Org Receiving
- Receipt Putaway
- Inventory miscellaneous transactions
- Subinventory transfers
- Inter-Org transfers
- WIP Issue
- WIP complete
Tight Integration with Oracle
LPN functionality in ClearOrbit's Gemini Simplified Interface (G.SI) Suite has been designed with tight integration to Oracle Applications as a key factor. This approach provides significant benefits:
- Single Data Model
LPN functionality uses the Oracle Applications database as the system of record. There is no data duplication in a different application.
- Visibility in Oracle Applications
The LPN data and inventory within LPNs are visible using standard Oracle Applications Forms. The user does not have to login to a different application to view the LPN data.
- Seamless functionality
Users do not have to perform transactions differently because of LPN functionality. They can use ClearOrbit or Oracle Applications interchangeably and with no difference in functionality.
Summary
The powerful LPN feature enables users to transact groups of items instead of having to transact them one at a time. For example, the user can do a subinventory transfer of an LPN from one subinventory to another. All the contents of the LPN will be transferred to the new subinventory in a single transaction. In receiving, the user can build a pallet (LPN) of the material received and then put away the entire pallet in a single transaction. The user can similarly build pallets when completing WIP jobs in manufacturing. The pallet can then be transferred to the finished goods subinventory in a single transaction. This type of functionality is typically only available with complex WMS (Warehouse Management System) products requiring additional licensing, setup and configuration.
